IBM Widgets for LinkedIn, TripIt Simplify Professional Networking and On-Line Travel Planning

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the first two in a new initiative to develop software widgets for a wide variety of business needs. New Lotus Notes software widgets for travel management and professional social networking are now available. TripIt and LinkedIn applications can each now be opened via single sign-on right from the familiar Lotus Notes desktop screen, enabling and simplifying the management of travel and business networking for millions of workers worldwide.

“Notes is the first open collaboration software to be able to provide users with desktop direct access by both LinkedIn and TripIt. This demonstrates the versatility of Lotus Notes in Web collaboration,” said Kevin Cavanaugh, vice president, Messaging and Collaboration, IBM Software. “Whatever Lotus customers need, there’s a widget for that.”

With today’s myriad travel Web sites, even the most experienced business traveler may find managing trip details a daunting task. TripIt organizes trip details into one master online itinerary, even if arrangements are booked at multiple travel sites. It automatically includes maps, directions and weather into a master itinerary and gives travelers the option to add restaurants, theater tickets and other activities for the trip.

Travelers can safely access travel plans online, share them, check-in for flights or print an itinerary. The service makes it easy for travelers to share and collaborate on travel plans and to see when their plans overlap so they can meet-up with people from their professional network.

“I travel all the time and have found TripIt to be a fantastic tool for staying organized with hotel and airline bookings. With Lotus Notes 8.5 the new iCalendar feature made it very simple to add TripIt calendar entries. All I do when I make a booking is email TripIt and everything is added automatically to my Notes calendar. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new TripIt widget to see how much better it can get,” said Adam Brown, Director at ISW, an IBM business partner based in Australia.

“TripIt is used by business travelers around the world to manage travel information and increase productivity while on the road,” said Scott Hintz, vice president, Business Development, and co-founder, TripIt. “Bringing TripIt directly to the Lotus Notes desktop now makes it easier than ever for millions of business travelers to keep their travel in synch with the rest of their professional lives.”

LinkedIn is an online network of more than 43 million business professionals in more than 200 countries. With the new LinkedIn micromashup software capability for Lotus Notes, users can access the world’s most popular professional network directly from their desktops. Features include a stream of LinkedIn network updates, people search with one-click, and access to view LinkedIn Professional profiles right within Notes.

“LinkedIn was created so that professionals could more effectively stay in touch with their trusted contacts, and learn more about new people they work with,” said Ellen Levy, vice president, Corporate Development and Strategy, LinkedIn. “Now that LinkedIn is an integral part of the professional’s daily work flow in Lotus Notes, we anticipate that our users will get even more value from frequent, useful interactions with their professional networks.”

Lotus Notes and Domino are supported by over 10,000 IBM Business Partners worldwide, with thousands of offerings built on the platform. Lotus Notes 8.5 transforms the traditional “in-box” into an integrated workspace with Web 2.0 customization, assembling email, calendar, instant messaging, office productivity tools and custom applications in a single-screen view. Lotus Notes Traveler software extends Lotus Notes mail to a variety of mobile devices.

Embarkons Launches Social Network for Innovation Entrepreneurs

Social network firm, Embarkons, Inc., today announced the launch of Embarkons, a social utility for ideas, projects and innovation ventures.

“We created the Embarkons social network to allow entrepreneurs to connect ideas with people so that new ventures can be created with the speed and efficiency that social networks allow,” says Embarkons, Inc., Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Cornwell. “We call this ‘project-ing,’ or working on a project and socializing it online. These tools have been available for fun — and now with Embarkons people can take their ideas and make them into ventures using the same concepts. Embarkons is about connecting people through ideas. Embarkons is a new way for small business innovation to go from idea to venture with the power of social networking.”

A user starts by posting their idea. They are then able to invite people to join the idea or project. Collaborators can contribute to the discussion of the project. The more activity the project generates, the more momentum the project earns. Once a project has generated interest, it can be entered into Embarkons Marketplace where people can sell, buy or partner their ventures. Marketplace users can also create challenges where they can state a need for a service or a product and entrepreneurs can respond with their venture.

Through Corporate Challenges, organizations and brands may leverage the Embarkons social network to engage with their markets through pay-per-use project challenges.

Most of these social network features are available without charge to anyone who visits Embarkons. The Innovation Marketplace, which allows users to communicate privately with interested parties and to respond to Marketplace Challenges, costs $15 per month.

Embarkons will also offer a fee-based, enterprise-only version of its service for private, secure information exchange and collaboration within an organization to provide the benefits of social networking to small business innovation.

ExactTarget Launches Social Network-Based BackOffice to Deliver Online Customer Support

On-demand email and one-to-one marketing solutions provider ExactTarget launched its social network-based BackOffice today, allowing customers to submit and track help cases via the company’s social network.

Located in ExactTarget’s customer-only social networking site 3sixty, BackOffice allows customers to request technical support, monitor real-time help status and view a 90-day history of submitted help requests. The online support is in addition to ExactTarget’s global 24-hour-a-day phone-based customer support services.

“3sixty has become the location of choice for email marketers to engage with their peers to discuss current issues in marketing or pose questions to us about the software, its functionality or any issues they are currently experiencing in the application,” said Stephanie Zircher, ExactTarget’s director of 3sixty. “The introduction of BackOffice to 3sixty provides the industry’s only one-stop social networking site that provides exclusive client only education, support requests and online collaboration.”

Named 3sixty for the role the site plays in connecting emarketers to one another and to ExactTarget, the social network has grown to more than 13,000 members in less than nine months. Since launching in October, nearly 100 product enhancements and additions recommended by 3sixty users have already been incorporated into the company’s one-to-one marketing platform, including improved tracking tools, expanded email testing and simplified triggered email sending capability among others.

“The site gives our team a chance to network with colleagues around the country in a forum that is dedicated solely to e-marketing,” said Cara Olson, manager of e-marketing at Overland Park, Kans.-based Digital Evolution Group. “It gives our team the opportunity to quickly learn about enhancements and to respond to and advise other ExactTarget users who have posted questions in the community.”

Through the site’s training section, known as the University, users can participate in nearly 100 interactive on-demand video tutorials on ExactTarget’s technologies including SMS text messaging, triggered messages, international emails and dynamic content.

In addition to delivering online training and providing a forum for ExactTarget users, 3sixty gives marketers access to the company’s new products before they are commercially available. Earlier this year, global pizza giant Papa John’s field tested ExactTarget’s Social ForwardTM technology through the Innovations Lab on 3sixty.

ExactTarget clients access 3sixty directly from the software application online at www.exacttarget.com.

Voice for Teens Creates a Social Network and Forum for Teens Only

Voice for teens recently created a world wide social networking site for teens only. This site is meant for teens to have a voice in today’s world. Teens have been looked over during this whole social networking craze. What’s unfair is that teens have been a huge part in making the social networking phenomenon as big as it is today. It’s really scary to know that our youth is being pulled into adult forums when they should have a forum of their own.

Voice for teens realizes that teenagers need their voices be heard. They have been begging to have a social networking site of their own. They need a place where they can be themselves and not be surrounded by adult influences. A place where they can chat with people their own age who are just like them.

The social networking boom has become such a huge phenomenon in today’s world. Social networking sites such as MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, and Twitter have taken the industry by storm. The sad truth is that some of these sites would not be where they are at today without the support of teens. A lot of the advertising on these social networking sites is geared towards teenagers. So where is the credit that teens deserve for these companies success?

Voice for teens recently created a social networking forum for teens only. In this forum teens will able to freely talk about any topic and subject of their choice. They will be able to be themselves and discuss what matters to them with their peers around the world. This forum is geared to be a safe place where teens can be themselves and not be influenced by adults. There is a strict policy in place to make sure this forum is protected. Even though teenagers can freely discuss issues of their choosing, any misconduct will not be tolerated. Forum members must be between the ages of 13-18 years old to participate.

Teens now have a place to go and have their voices be heard. They now have a forum where they can call home and a chance to take the social networking scene by storm. They have the power to make Voice for Teens the number one social networking site on the Internet.

How Twitter Can Help Your Business Grow and Grow

Twitter, can generate sales leads for your business faster than other social network, even with a slashed budget. So says David White, Founder and Chief Executive of Weboptimiser (http://www.weboptimiser.com) and he’ll tell you how your company can benefit from it when he presents his webinar during July.
He’ll explain how Twitter is generating up to half the hits on his company’s website, building their contact list and their reputation fast and effectively. With a successful background in SEO he is one of the best people in digital marketing to see the massive potential Twitter has for business and, what’s more, he’s investing his own time and money in spreading the message. His team of engineers and directors has been working on social media projects for two years and the work on Twitter has come from the last six months of development. Each will last for 60 minutes including 20 minutes for Q&A. Join the webinar at http://bit.ly/Cxzmb
Most people now know that Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: what are you doing? Once Barack Obama started using it the world sat up and took notice. It’s a phenomenal success with growth in one year calculated at 22-fold. It’s also said to have played a key role in the recent anti-government demonstrations in Iran.
But it’s the business application that David will be talking about in his webinar and you can join if you hurry, numbers are limited and going fast. He will share his experience in developing business applications for Twitter where there is a fast, measurable return. He’ll discuss the do’s and don’ts of Twittering that he’s learned the hard way or, as he puts it, ‘don’t try to work from scratch, you’ll be spending more time on technology than on your clients’.
He’ll emphasise the importance of getting your planning right, with clearly set objectives. He’ll demonstrate how you can turn followers into prospects and then into increased sales – and all in very short time and at a fraction of the cost of mounting a full marketing campaign. You’ll hear details of the surveys he’s conducted himself that show the effectiveness of Twitter and the competitively-priced packages Weboptimiser offers to get you Twittering and Tweeting with the best of them.
