Internet Ad Sales Soared 35% to $16.9 Billion in 2006

May 24th, 2007

Internet advertising sales soared 35 percent to $16.9 billion in the U.S. last year as marketers accelerated their pursuit of Web-site audiences.

Fourth-quarter Internet ad spending reached a record $4.8 billion, a 33 percent gain, the Interactive Advertising Bureau said today, citing a survey conducted with the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

The Internet accounted for 5.9 percent of all U.S. ad spending, up from 4.7 percent in 2005, the New York-based bureau said. The report shows advertisers are increasingly picky about where they place their ads and the results they get. Companies spent more on ads that they pay for only if a user responds.
