The internet will overtake national newspapers this year to become the third biggest medium for advertising spending, according to a report today.

The marketing dollars targeting potential consumers surfing the Web is set to rise for a fourth year, if the recent growth of online advertising continues apace.
In the first quarter, online advertising soared 38% as advertisers devoted a record $3.9 billion to target consumers on the Web, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
