Microsoft to attack Classified ads market with Google Base clone

Microsoft Corp. said it is readying an online marketplace, code-named Fremont, which is apparently in response to a similar feature that rival Google Inc. introduced a few weeks ago.
Fremont is a free service in which people contribute listings, whether it’s about a couch for sale or someone looking for a commuting partner.

Wasted Potential in Online Classified Ads

Newspaper Ad Spending Up 2.4%

The LA Times reports that according to preliminary estimates by the Newspaper Association of America, newspapers have seen increases in classified advertising as well as ads on their websites. Spending inched up 2.4% to $12 billion for the third quarter of 2005 when compared with the year-earlier quarter.
